Urban soils have issues.
Since we began work in the garden a year ago this month, we’ve dug up trash in the flower beds, figured out the soil is contaminated, and struggled to reign in invasive weeds.
Over the winter a fine layer of rubble worked its way to the top of ALL the flower beds. It was ugly. But in a way it’s is a boon. It allows me to quickly scrape off the top layer of pebbles and trash and replace it with compost. I’d estimate that in one morning I was able to replace 2-3 cubic feet of useless dirt.
Even a bit of minor soil remediation makes the whole garden look so loved.
Now there's a good, clean space for the new & returning perennials. Spring is only a week away!
