Last rose of November, the morning after Hurricane Sandy

Our block was spared. No fallen trees, no broken fences, no flooding, and no large branches fell. A fair amount of wind gets blocked by a local elementary school, allowing my little hoop house to survive without damage. During the coldest part of the night it's still holding steady at 4-5 degrees above outdoor temps - enough to keep us going through most of December. We're incredibly lucky.

A week later, many people are still struggling, but it's heartening to see Brooklyn come together to help those who lost something in the storm. There's still a lot left to be done.

Food, clothing, and basic supplies are organized at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Sunset Park
