Another New Arrival

My Swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) started sprouting this morning! I'm pleasantly surprised- I'd expected to have to wait a couple more weeks. It may take that long for the rest of the batch. I soaked these seeds for a couple of days before I planted them, which seems to have helped germination.

That's one step closer to making my yard more Monarch-friendly! I have a long list of native plants that should sprout over the coming months: Dutchman's Breeches, Missouri Primrose, Rue Anemone, False Anemone, Black-Eyed Susan, Cupid's Dart, Ramps and Clematis viorna, to name a few. It will take a lot of patience to make this happen...wish me a lot of luck!

Very young Asclepias incarnata - sprouted in only two and a half weeks!
